I'm trying to get AC3 passthru to work. Do I need to build/install any
firmware for this card to get this to work?

I needed spdif output over both optical and RCA and I settled on an
EMU0404 card that I got through guitarcenter.com
I have not gotten AC3 passthru to work yet though, just PCM

I would not be surprised if 'DTS' means AC3 and 'PCM' means anything
else (isn't PCM headerless?).
Is mplayer transcoding to PCM?

How do I get ALSA to pass an ac3 file through to my receiver? I want the
receiver to decode it, not my PC.

After applying the two emu patches (some of which seemed to have been
done already
but it needs a tool called gettextize which I have never seen.

Okay, I have a custom 2.6.23.8 kernel with sound enabled, but alsa
disabled (see below).
I have build all of alsa from source using aabuild
And still I get (the same) errors. Any hints? How can I tell if the
firmware got installed? Does this card need firmware? I see fw
