I'm a semi-newbie . . .ancient programmer but getting up to speed on Linux . . .
I was simply trying to do a 'simple' upgrade to RH (8.0) kernel 2-4-20 18.8 and the RH update agent isn't happy!
I get: =========================================================== There was a package dependency problem. The message was:
Unresolvable chain of dependencies: alsa-kernel-0.9.2-fr1_2.4.18_27.8.0 requires kernel = 2.4.18-27.8.0
Please modify your package selections and try again. ===========================================================
I have almost deleted the 'offending' pkg . . . all that's left is one copy, in /root/ALSO/...and it's chmod 000 and renamed xxxalsa-kernel......
rpm denies it's existance anyway ("not installed)
rpm --rebuilddb does no good.....
rebooting does no good . . . This one has me snowed! WWW search deals with other obvious dependency issues but not ghost rpms!
HELP! (LOL?) Thanks IA George
