Sorry for the newbie help request =)

I desperately need help getting external MIDI to work!

I built the ALSA driver according to the INSTALL docs for my chipset (nVidia nforce2), using ./configure --with-cards=intel8x0 --with-sequencer=yes. Sound works great, but amidi -l yields no MIDI devices, and /dev/sequencer doesn't exist (I'm trying playmidi to test things.. is there a better test app?)

Thanks very much for any advice!! I'm using RedHat 9 and ALSA 1.0.3rc2

/etc/modules.conf contains:

# ALSA portion
alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
# OSS/Free portion
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
alias /dev/mixer snd-mixer-oss
alias /dev/dsp snd-pcm-oss
alias /dev/midi snd-seq-oss
