Hi, I know this won't help but I have the same problem with via82xx module and VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 10) audio chip. Using Debian Testing with alsa-source 0.9.0rc5-2.
Haven't figure it out yet. Always records silent even playing works great. :-( Patrik
