I am running Redhat 7.3 with kernel 2.4.18-3 & trying to install driver
0.9.0rc8
I get the same error when trying to ./configure under 0.9.0rc7
Here is what I get
---
make[1]: *** [memalloc.o] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/alsa/alsa-driver-0.9.0rc8/acore'
make: ***
Yes, I think so. below is my (huge) install in its completeness

Subject: Re: [Alsa-user] Problems, No /dev/dsp found for i810 nor Quattro
I am having the same problem with the ALSA ice-1712 drivers on R
In my never ending saga of difficulties with ALSA, here is some info as to
what is going wrong.
Whenever KDE starts it gives me a message that /dev/dsp doesn`t exist.
This happens in root & my local usr. I can open and run a bunch of sound
programs, all of which act as if they were playing sound o
snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or
directory
Any clues?
Thanks, todd

driver install page) & my modules.conf is messing me up. When I installed
the driver, lib, utils, etc everything was fine but my comp didn`t know
ALSA or the Quattro existed. i could still use my laptop`s internal i810

alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
alias eth0 sis900
alias sound-slot-0 i810_audio
post-install sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -L
>/dev/null 2>&1 || :
pre-remove sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -S >/dev/null
2>&1 || :
alias usb-control

n the /dev/dsp?
Also I got my XMMS mp3 player working via changing the output to OSS
driver. But now it plays out of my laptop`s sound card, not the Quattro.

So I did everything up to and including the modprobe commands and all is
good to go. Now it tells me upon
start up that no device exists in /dev/dsp
I am using a m-aduio quattro and it is turned on.

ok so I installed the driver, lib, and utils and it says now...
..

snd-pcm-oss;modprobe snd-mixer-oss;modprobe snd-seq-oss

Ok, USB works, but I have this problem now...

Ok so I can`t get past the first step.
I have RedHat 7.3 (which has the kernel 2.1.4.7 or something? whatever the
newest one is I think). Do I need to mess with the kernel to turn on usb
or is it already accommodated? I can`t make heads or tails of the kernel
how-to but maybe i could figure it out
Hi, I have been using linux for a little while (1/2 yr) & am ok @ it. I
am a bit overwhelmed by the detailed and seemingly lengthy process of ALSA
driver installation. Can anyone tell me exactly what I need to do & not do
in order to install my M-Audio Quattro USB digital audio card?
I am running
