Thanks for that. I have recompile the kernel with your suggestions. I now get past the make modules section without error. Don't know if this is important since Alsa is not yet installed but there is an "unresolved symbol" message when the kernel boots this time the missing symbol is /lib/modules

I am attempting to install ALSA and in preparation have compiled a custom kernel. I'm using Redhat 8 system, kernel 2.4.20-18.8, and have an integrated Sound Blaster card with Ensoniq 1371 chip set. It is my understanding that in the sound section of the kernel configuration I should select only
