Regarding my earlier posting in which I described the problem of no sound and incorrect alsamixer operation with SB Live Platinum, it has been pointed to me that perhaps alsa is not be correctly recognizing SB Live devices if there is an on-board chip that alsa finds instead. So I wanted to add the main board description below.
Also, although I mentioned that alsaconf seems to complete the configuration and test steps it goes through for SB Live, it does list a second optional sound device and asks it I want to configure it. If I choose this device it gives error message about unrecognized device. But if I select SB Live it proceeds fine. Nevertheless when I then start alsamixer it does not correctly identify the emu10k1 chip on upper left hand corner of controls screen. And the mixer does not function properly. So the question becomes, has anybody else had problems with an on-board sound/codec device in addition to SB Live board, and if so any ideas how to correct it?
