the card has not vanished as shown in /proc/pci
  Bus  0, device  10, function  0:

      Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xdb000000 [0xdbffffff].

I looked at the sources and there seem no clues, just that the
initalisation failed.  What else can I do?
