Something to remember is there are large differences between the stock
version of a kernel as released by Linus, and the Red Hat version of
that kernel.  Every single Red Hat kernel I've used has been heavily
patched.  Check out the .src.rpm to see what I mean.

Since the stock version worked for kmberry, I expect this issue involves
one of the patches Red Hat put in their version of the 2.4.20 kernel.
