Does your system use devfs? I can't remember if
Redhat 7.2 uses this, but with devfs device
permissions are allocated to users on the fly as you
describe.
In this case you can force permissions in
/etc/devfsd.conf. Such a fix is mentioned in the ALSA
"INSTALL" file included with the ALSA driver
