1. Open a first terminal dedicated to alsa-mixer
2. Open a second terminal where you will type the following commands

I installed alsa-lib and alsa-utils. Then I ran 'alsactl store' to save
the volume level. This is how I got /etc/asound.state. Then I ran

system. Current ALSA version packaged in the unstable branch is 0.9.4.
The script /etc/init.d/alsa includes calling alsactl store on stopping
