AHA! Silly me -- there's a setting in rosegarden-4 to "choose the
MIDI output device" and the default need only be set to the Timidity
device!
I do not pretend to understand anything more than that it makes a sound
now, and for the moment, I'm one happy camper.

Having never attempted anything like this before ... I'm hoping to
run timidity with rosegarden-4, and everything seemed to be going
really smoothly, with just one small problem ...
there is no sound output
