Once the signal is digitized, you have already lost
significant bits.
Boosting digitally by software multiplication, will
also boost the
(digitization and other) noise (missing resolution
or other). Better to
amplify

many People have problem with too weak microphone - even if mic boost
is selected in alsamixer and volume is set to maximum.
Is it possible in ALSA with some Plugin to boost microphone by software
way?
