ok, I searched through the archives and the faq.
:( First, is there a command (tapetype?) that
can be run to get the numbers I need?
If not, has anyone come up with the config for
this tape drive.
TIA,

Hi!
By two days I've got Input/output error everytime amanda tries to backup
or just check if proper tape is inserted. The same errors occurs if I try
to manually rewind or retension the tape.
I'm located in Romania and my server is in US, so I cannot figure out
what's happens. But a guy from

Hi all,
Two questions:
1. I have a SUN's external tape changer: DDS-3 Autoloader, which has a
magazine that can hold 6 tapes. I have try to modify chg-generic.conf
but still not working (won't load the next tape automatically). My
backup server is running Solaris 7.
2. How do I
Hi,
This explains nearly everything.
AFAIK the OnStream drives don't comply 100% to the scsi-standard's.
Under linux you need a special kernel-driver for these drives.
In the kernel 2.4.9 i know it is integrated, for earlier versions
you'll probably need a patch to get it working correct.
Radu,
I used to have one of those tape drives and it kept doing the same thing to
me as well. Only difference was that I was using it with NT and BackupExec.
The only short term fix was to turn the drive on and off, then restart the
device drivers for BackupExec. After replacing the drive twice
Please try the following patch. It will not fix anything, but will log
the exit code of all the processes driver starts, in particular, the
messed up dumpers. Actually, it will only log them if they indicate some
kind of failure, but I'd be surprised if they are going away cleanly.

Hmmm... it also seems to not take compression into account (we use gnu
tar with client side compression). The estimated size is much larger

I have a ADR30 and have similar problems.
The Input/output errors seemed to go away for me once I used amlabel
to label the tape. In other words, it seemed to give the errors only
when the tape had never been written to.
As for ejecting the tape, my solution has been to try multiple

1) There is no power switch on a ADR30 drive.
2) The ADR30 manual is too thin to answer this question.

Hi all,
I have an HP DAT24x6i 6 slot changer (HP C1557A U812) which seems
to be working well, except for one problem.
When amanda is on the last tape in the magazine and requests the
next one, the first tape is loaded but amanda fails to recognise
it.
The error I get is:

John,
I have made some progress on this problem, which is why it has taken so long
to respond to your last message. I first changed out my primary SCSI card
which drives my system and dump data disks, and the tape jukebox. I found
that my self terminating internal drive was not, so swapped out
