Hey there,
Thanx you guys for the feedback.
I will build a test setup using RAIT with vtapes and mirroring, it looks
like a cool solution
I have one more question:
Do I have to make the vtapes a large as the real tapes? I though it
wouldn't just be wise but mandatory... But even wiser to ask you

Kind of a best practice or common usage query.
For those of you using vtapes, how have you chosen
to specify the size of a single vtape?
A while ago, perhaps 1-2 yrs when vtapes were starting
to be used more regularly, the comments seemed to be
divide the available space by the number of vtapes.

How are current users sizing their vtapes and what has

Here is what I am currently doing:
size of vtapes is set to DVD size.
I have written a tape-changer with the capability to be set in

Note that when you write a dump to a vtape, and you hit EOT, the

Hi,
I've been wondering what will happen if the backup server crashes
but the tapes or the data are in good working condition. Would it be
possible to recover the data using a newly installed amanda system?
Thanks,
Ryan
I believe that to recover using amanda, you would need amanda.conf
[because it points to the right device], tapelist and index. Ofcourse,
recovery using the native tool [whatever you used to back up] would be
possible.
Thanks
