Brett,
Today, Amanda has extremely limited support for database and other application
backups. You can't use the API interface, but you can create scripts to dump
the database somewhere, and then back up that dumped file. Alternatively,
with some databases you can just backup the raw data files
Hi folks,
I’m looking for a way to back up several different
Microsoft applications (Exchange 2003, SQL Server, Active Directory) as well as
interfacing Amanda with Oracle RMAN. File level backups via Samba won’t

If it works with your OS, it works with Amanda.

Dear Listers,
I have a general question concerning the vtapes mechanisms and vtape length.
I configured an amanda server ("minerva", amanda-2.4.5-2, SuSE 10.0) with
"chg-disk" and 14 slots.
In the beginning there are a lot of "lev 0 failed", obviously, because I am

Indexes are always compressed server-side.
Thank you and best regards
Uwe

Hi:
The gzip --best process in the server is to compress the index files, not the
data.

Dear Listers,
yesterday I configured an amanda server with vtapes and client compression.
Now I see that on both machines (client and server) a gzip process is
running and I wonder why.
The client "hercules" (a samba server, amanda-2.4.4p1-62):
