Hi all,
I am just upgrading my Amanda from 2.4.5 to 2.5.1p1 (2.5.2p1 does not
compile at all). I am very happy about the new 'ssh-auth' feature in
2.5. It works now in my test setup (only 2 DLEs).
The question I have now, is, wether ssh is used ONLY for authentication,
or if ALL dumps as
I've been using ssh-auth since the earliest days of 2.5. Yes, the
dumps themselves go through the ssh tunnel. I have not noticed any
appreciable increase in backup time, at least on our system, which has
over 400 DLEs. (I'm not sure why the number of DLEs would be
relevant, really.)

Hi again,
thanks for the quick replies.
@ Steve: Of course the number of DLEs is not what possibly makes things
slower, but the amount of data thas has to be transferred to the tape
server. And that will significantly improve when I go from 2 DLEs setup
to 'real' backup, that's what I
Hi Dustin,
no problem. I just didn't want to spam the 'users' mailing list with
the compiling details, but here we go:
I am running Ubuntu 7.04 on i386 on the server host. Tried gcc-4.1 and
gcc-3.3. Downloaded 2.5.2p1 from Amanda website.
This is how I configured 2.5.2p1 sources:
Hi Dustin,
now it's really getting wierd...
As I wrote one message before, I could not compile 2.5.2p1 on my
tapeserver and posted the error message. 2.5.1p1 did compile fine.
Now I tried to compile 2.5.1p1 also on my clients (same configure
options) and I get the SAME error message for
Aha!
After installing 'libreadline5-dev' version 2.5.1p1 also compiles on my
clients now. But still no luck with 2.5.2p1 on server or clients...
