I add the amanda entries to /etc/services and /etc/inetd.conf,
then when I hup inetd and check the system messages file,

Problem was with a library that needed to be linked on the client...
ln -s /usr/local/ssl/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8 /lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8
Fixed the issue..

to run # amcheck.
