Has anyone figured out how to run Amanda securely over the Internet? I
have a single server at a webhosting site that I'd like to backup as
part of the rest of my network backup. For various reasons, I can't do
the obvious and setup a VPN.
Suggestions welcome...

Hello all,
I have a complete amanda generated backup consisting of eight daily1-8
tapes (SLR100).
Now I need to look into these tapes. How do I do that?
Alternatively I could also restore the complete set, I have enough
space.
I have no idea how to use amanda, all quick attempts ended up in missi

Hi,
i have the problem, that amanda always flushes its holding-disk, no
matter what i do. I tried 2.5.2 and 2.5.2-flush-1.
I tried with different reserves and holdingdisk set to auto and required.

Ok, but what's the "autoflush off" parameter good for?
harald
er that.
in my opinion, amanda should catch that write-error, and terminate in a
controlled fashion (write mail, clean up ...)
cheers,

As it is cumbersome to restore stuff from different configs, I wrote
"chg-multiplex", which acts as a super-changer and combines the two
configs for restore purposes.
If you like the idea, have a look at:

It is. Just use the same logdir.

Hi Jörn,
that's easy: amcheck must not be run as root, but as the amanda-user!
(normally "amanda"). It's because the program tries to connect to the client
with a rsh, and the client system doesn't allow remote connections as root
(would be a BIG security hole if it doe
\([0-9]*\)...
this regexp matches ANY number of digits, so even more than 99 tapes should
be no problem, :-)...
in the substitution, you can then still use your first script with only a
\1.

Windows-Filesystems on the LINUX-Host (with smbclient),
and use amanda to backup everything.
(The clients are running 24h a day)
I have an Onstream DI-30 tapedrive, which (should) work fine with the new
Linux Kernel.
Thanks for any comments,

Hi Ben,
thanks for your prompt answer, I know there are problems with the registry
and with open files, but that doesn't mater in this case.
So, it will be no problem (as I supposed, with such a nice software like
amanda)
Thanks + best regards,
Harald
