Thanks, that makes sense, and I'm not all that surprised to hear it.
I haven't heard anything from the amanda list on whether or not
the zmanda client checks to see if the reply is authoritative or
not. And experimentally we failed, then it worked, then failed
and worked again.

We have remapped some of our DNS clients to point to another
DNS resolver, one that we do not control, but that has "forwarder"
records in place to point our domain's address resolution requests
back to an authoritative server in our domain
