Just one suggestion. Try not to use AMEX, because the data is very
spotty. Data from other exchanges is in much better shape.

Did you try using full symbol format?

The format is: *SYMBOL*-*EXCHANGE*-*TYPE*
where
*SYMBOL* is the same as the symbol column as displayed in TWS while under
symbol mode
*EXCHANGE* (optional) is the exchange d in TWS while under symbol mode
*TYPE* (optional)

I sent the daily TWS log file, so they were able to analyze it.
The bottom line is:
1. Using my account I can see all quotes regardless of the exchange
(either ARCA or ISLAND).
2. I can see historical data on TWS charts regardles
This problem has been for a while. It is applicable mostly to iShares
ETFs. The error message means that you do not have access to
Archipelago Exchange. The backfill from ARCA is not free. I contacted
IB Technical Support and they advised me to switch to Stock(dedicated)
and select ISLAND, which is
