To answer your question about commercial gear and no equalizing caps, take a
look at the schematic of the little Heathkit AT-1 xmtr from the 50s. I Just
happen to be renovating one this week and the first section of the cap
input filter (two 8 mfd/350v in series) has no equalization. The
