[AMRadio] Amphenol Coil Forms Wanted

2006-06-16 Thread Freeberg, Scott (STP)
I recently acquired an HBR-13C in stunning condition. The HBR-13C was described in QST magazine 1965, a 13 tube superhetrodyne receiver, that anyone with (and these are my words) 'above average skills' can build :) Its designer, Ted Crosby, achieved near cult status as a result of his HBR

[AMRadio] Question about ferrite rods

2006-06-16 Thread Conor Farrell
Hi all, Sorry for the newbie question, but I'm wondering how the directionality of a ferrite rod works. Basically, how do I point it to a source? Should the radio wave propagation direction be parallel or perpendicular to the ferrite rod? -- Conor www.TechPhreek.com

Check this out: www.cathodecorner.com and click on the picture of the CRT unit (in the Plexiglass case). A CRT, vector-display clock. The 'guts' are solid-state, but the display is cool - plus the contruction time is quite a bit less. The Nixie Wristwatch is also fairly cool.

2006-06-16 Thread Bob Bruhns
Hi Conor, A ferrite rod antenna should be perpendicular to the oncoming signal wavefront, and also perpendicular to its electrical field (or parallel to its magnetic field). Because you would ordinarily be close to the ground with a loopstick radio, signals will tend to be vertically polarized

[AMRadio] HRO knob update

2006-06-16 Thread Mark Foltarz
Group, After much thought and fiddling around I finally had to surgically remove the outer bakelite knob. The three screws that held the knob on could not be coaxed out. This was an older model with only one set screw. Once I had that removed I was able to wedge out the knob with some shim
