John,
When you had these experiences, were you running two tubes in push pull
or parallel? Just curious..

I do not have a ranger or have I had a ranger, but I just can't see
how replacing a class C tube will change the power. As far as I know the
ranger is a class C output and not a linear amplifier. To me a class C
circuit is a switch which gains its efficiency from the fact that it doesn't

Or you could just reduce the loading with a 6146 in place and do the same
thing. You end up with the same plate load impedance either way. No free

Had a most interesting conversation with Steve W8TOW. Among other
things, he offered another and really cool way to reduce the power of
the Ranger without violating any rules.
Replace the 6146 with a 2E26, reduce the grid current to 2ma and Voila!
15 watts.

I know there are thousands of panel meters floating around among this
list. Please, take a look to see if you have a 0 - 500 ua meter, type
45. I can send a picture of the old one to those who think they may
have this elusive rascal. It goes in a Tempo One or Yaesu FT-200.
Thanks,

At one time I replaced a bad vfo on a "late" model with one from and
"early" model and ran into some issues. One was the connection between
the keyer and the vfo did not exist since the "early" model had no
keyer. The 100 ohm resistor (R1) from pin #1 of the 6AU6 (V1) was
connected to ground.
