[AMRadio] How to ID a swinging choke?

2007-12-08 Thread jeremy-ca
Is there a simple bench test or an eyeball way to tell the difference between a fixed and swinging choke? Something about an air gap if I remember but not all my chokes are open frames. Carl KM1H __ Our Main Website:

I've had good luck with J J (tesla) tubes for output tubes, EL34 and EL84. I've had good luck with Sovtek preamp 12AX7s but not 6L6s. I use NOS that I have collected from various sources, especially hamfests. The Electro Harmonix 6L6s seem to be fine, I think that they are picked out Sovteks and

Carl, Saturable reactors SWINGING CHOKES and saturable transformers are strange in the way they operate. A choke does not exactly lose it reactance as the DC current is increased thru it but instead it loses its ability to react over a certain period of AC cycle and AC current level as

Yep, I see your dilemma Carl, Maybe I am wrong but I don't think there is any difference other than the amount of magnetic gap. Sorry about my ramblings, HIHI Perhaps if the inductance, as measured with a bridge measuring device, shows to be quite high for the chokes physical size, this

John, as far I know Astatic has not manufactured them in several years. There are though some fellas who have replaced the 104 crystal or ceramic element with a wide variety of elements ranging for Radio Shack, those supplies by Mouser Electronics, and Heil microphone HC-4/5 elements with

John if you want originality, then contact Astatic. They had a mail in deal for about 40 bucks which included return postage sometime back. I had them do one of mine. Don't have the web site at my fingertips but you can search for them and look for the contact' page. Email them and they

I don't think anyone is making exact replacements for the D 104. The orignal element is very large so I don't think anyone wants to tool up for it. Kobetone makes a hi z crystal cartridge that will work ok in a D 104 head. It's small enough to fit into the Turner Centurion Head type mics too.
