Thanks for the update. It never seems that things AM are simple.

I am almost positive there is a ham station at the museum of American

I really can't speak to the late 1930's from my own experience, but my
Hammarlund HQ-120-X was built in 1939 (or thereabouts, but definitely
pre-WWII.) I still use one today. It was my first receiver in 1963!

JT,
When I just want to listen to good quality AM I use my Hammarlund HQ-140. I
pretty much have a complete line of the HQ series and to my rather poor ear,
the 140 sounds the best. Its probably because it is in the best shape of
them all.
Just my 2 cents.

I believe I have some of these. Tell me where to send - OK in QRZ.com?

Dan,
I would suggest one of the older Hammarlunds, e.g. HQ-129, HQ-140, or
HQ-150. My favorite in this group is the HQ-140.
Certainly within this price range.

Byron,
You might want to look at the Gonset G-28. Its a great concept to begin
your thoughts. Separate TX & RX VFOs.

One of the electronics stores here in Indianapolis bought a bunch of them

Gentleman,
The interference problem between RF sources and medical devices is real, but
fortunately a declining one. For many years the medical device industry did
not do a good job in their designs but most devices were in a controlled

Hope this is on topic. I know that many you of you have had an engineering
education and are at least in the 50 plus age range. Hence my inquiry may
