Regular floor varnish works just fine. You have to thin it with Zylene. The motor repair shop is a baking varnish. I use nomex paper when insulating rewinds. Its expensive but very very reliable. The tar is nothing more than the stuff roofers use on flat roofs. Its applied hot and cools down to a
