It's very unlikely that the Gross CP-100 ever used a TZ20. The Taylor TZ-series tubes were designed for grounded grid operation and usually used in pairs or quads. Also, Gross seems to have labeled it's transmitters with a model number that was intended to indicate the watts input of the rig. and

Paul: Others have answered your question about Class C RF amps vs. Class AB linears. You can certainly use your Ranger to drive an amp like an SB220 for fully modulated AM at ~400watts carrier. Enough to make you a 'big gun'. BUT, you'll have to either modify the Ranger to permit reduction of it
