I tried an experiment once when I needed a 1500V fuse at 15A. IIRC, a
single strand from #22, which I believe is made from 7/32, will break at
about 7A current. I used two strands until I could get the correct
fuse. High voltage fuses are also EXPENSIVE. Current capacity for wire
is easy en
Good idea, Jim. I'll have to check that out. The problem seems to be when
I talk to these fuse manufacturers is the relatively low current rating for
such a high voltage (1.5 amp @ 5kv). Thanks for the idea.

Hey Rick,
Something just occurred to me, wonder what kind of wire is in
Solder wires onto a fuse of the correct current rating and suspend it from
the end caps inside the barrel of the blown fuse.
I have been using a high voltage fuse repaired in this way for years in a
BC-375.

How about trying no rosin solder?

Another thought, someone still supports Bauer, have you tried to
email him to see what he is doing?

Hey Rick,
Something just occurred to me, wonder what kind of wire is in
fuseable links used on automobiles?
If that is fuse wire, one could buy one and remove a strand or
whatever you need. Auto parts stores have several different sizes
of the fuseable links.
Does anyone on the board know
Thanks Bob... I did a preliminary search on Google for fuse wire, but didn't
find much. I'll look a little harder.

See if you can find "FUSE WIRE"!

I saw just this happen when a fuse failed on a piece of equipment. My

That might work fine Rick.

Thanks Ken. That is some beautiful work! I may be able to incorporate the

Thanks Peter. I didn't have any success at the Buss web site, but will try
some electrical contractors next week. I found some 5KV at 3 amp, but
that's a tad to heavy.

Rick, I have bought my HV fuses from my local Electrical Supply houses. The
fuses are now made by Cooper or Buss fuse. I am sure you will find the fuse
part number on their web page.
