I've built one (which testifies to the fact that it is easy to build!) and
it works like a charm. I've work SO-50 to within 5 degrees of the horizon.

SO-50 is operating, however it is a difficult bird to track, it's in a lower
LEO orbit, hence the Doppler moves more quickly than AO-51, the antenna aboard
SO-50 is a 1/4 wave vertical antenna
