According to the logbook that contact was around 2.5 degrees
elevation which is very close to my horizon. My best distance would
probably be a contact with EI4HT.
Another feature of AO-40 which may or may not be relevant to your
talk Pete, was the variety of uplinks

I believe that the HF bands are treated as one setting but 6M, 2M and 70 cm can
have the antenna port set individually.
I know that my favorite configuration is to use the rear port for 6M and the
front port for 2M and 70 cm.

We had another favorable break at midday today when the ship's speed was
slowed by a convergence current for a few hours that caused us to still
be in EJ78 long enough to get that grid into a few logs on AO27.
