I took my electronics students to the top floor of the Advanced Technology
Center at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ to see the launch.
The elevation was a lot higher than I expected. The "flares" that occurred
between rocket stages got some of the most O's. :-)
Very cool.

This is very sad news.
Besides his work with AMSAT, I remember Dee as being one of the examiners who
graded and/or signed my Proof of Passing Certificate after my taking an FCC
Commercial General Radiotelephone Operator License exam back in the mid-1990s.
He will be missed.

Just grabbed a couple of friends to witness a BEAUTIFUL double fly-by over New

Hi Bob.

I don't think the ionosphere will allow 160 meter downlink propagation... on a
regular basis, at least.
UoSAT-OSCAR-9 carried HF beacons on 7, 14, 21, and 28 MHz, and if I recall
correctly, the only beacon never heard was the one on 7 MHz.
So, receiving

Bob,
My understanding is that LF and VLF emissions of terrestrial origin don't get
beyond the 'D' layer, even at night. In fact, the 'D' layer acts as a
reflector, rather than an attenuator at these frequencies. Cos

I tell my electronics students that we can express gain or loss in dB by taking
the log of power ratios and multiplying by 10, or by taking the log of the
voltage or current ratios and multi
