I second the comment about getting a switched one. Unless you have a
dedicated RX or have disabled the TX, you will certainly pop a RX only amp.
Its just a matter of when. Happened to me twice before admitting my
clumsiness.
I've had very good luck with the ARR switched amps. I have two for 70
QFH are a bear to build, especially on 70 cm unless you’re very , very skilled.
I tried 3 times and failed 3 times. Finally gave up and went with a standard
turnstyle. Still critical tolerances but much easier to make and works lower on
the horizon than the QFH. QHtenna used to sell turnstiles (
Whats the difference between high and low power mode? I know its determined by
being in eclipse or not and I believe high power is 0.5 W on SSB and FM. But no
luck in finding more info than that on the web about power.
So far, all passes I’ve been able to copy here Eastern US are late at night
Hello,
Are there keps for this bird yet? So far I’ve been listening using the ISS keps
in SATPC32 but eventually this wont work. What will its official designation in
the downloadable keps files be?
Also, do we have a “final answer” on the UHF side? Is there an antenna or not?

I agree on TV rotors. Its an excellent inexpensive way to get elevation. The
U100/110 is what I use as well and its well suited because you can put the boom
right through the rotor.
There are some nice pictures of setups using these rotors on this sites:

The Arrow isn't set up for mast mounting by default. But under the rubber
handle (easily pulled off) is a threaded connector that mates with most camera
tripods. Many use that tripod mount on the Arrow (including me) to manage
fatigue and be lazy. You can rig up an L bracket with a trip to the h
It can be done but there will be some loss. Generally the higher the frequency,
the bigger impact of barriers like roofs and walls. So 70 cm downlink will
suffer noticeably.
I’ve done it and make the following recommendations.
Get the most gain you can. While omnis are possible, you may lose pat
Got my first QSO on this very strong SAT. Signal is at least 3 S units more
here than than the average pass of other birds. Very excited about working it.
But the audio on it did sound very "fuzzy" to me. Not the usual crisp clear FM
I hear on AO-27, SO-50, and AO-51 when tuned in to center.
Version 12.8a has a new feature that allows satpc32 to update frequencies more
often that once per second according to the Whatsnew file. But it doesnt say
how to invoke or select this option. Has anyone found this in the menu? What am
I missing?
Whatsnew says:

I've had my battles with desense. Originally I was going in the direction that
the RX antenna was in the envelope of the TX. It made sense and some elmers
suggested it. Even at low power (5-10W) and separating antennas by 30 ft it
would still de-sense, but not as pronounced (omnidirectional ant
Hello all,
Now that I was remionded to look, my qhtenna units came with a 1 page assemby
instructions and drawing that includes lengths of rods and phasing harness. I'd
be glad to scan/post it somewhere if anyone wants it.

QHTenna was back for a little while in 2008 but is again no longer making
antennas for Amateurs. This is the last website.

I have a pair of his antennas. They were your basic turnstile (no reflector )
made of aluminum rods and PVC. They did the job as omnis go and I'm st
I rigged something that works pretty well from a few more bits of PVC, a couple
L brackets and a hose clamp. I can take a few snaps with my phone and send them
to you directly if you like.
