My Yaesu G 5400B elevation rotor is seized, but the motors seem fine. Any
suggestions on where to
get it fixed and how much it'll cost. Yep, I realize Yaesu may be my primary
option. Just looking for
an array of options (if possible).

A brief check of the Operating manual doesn't appear to acknowledge software
control per se.
I just need to get the xmit piece functional.

I plan on being on FO29 in a couple hours from now. The footprint

It appears that the upcoming AO7 pass over Hawaii (0157Z) will be in MODE B.
The footprint will extend as far east as the western Iowa border. Parts of
Minnesota and
Texas will also be in "my" footprint. Short notice, I realize, however I will

Although I am in the embryonic stages of learning to work the birds I
agree that a whip is not the beginner's antenna of choice. The whip is
however, a small convenient antenna that presents many challenges
(like QRP) to those HAMS interested in pushing the envelope.

AO27 at 2308Z grandchildren precluding.
As aforementioned my home QTH allows only
the western region and Alaska on these passes.

is "iffy." Regardless it would be nice to make a contact in MODE A.

Sorry for the delay re: the last 51 pass over Hawaii. Unfortunately,
nothing heard. As I was in the field with the VX-7R I did not have
duplex capabilities as yesterday with my ground station. However,
I heard no quieting nor stations on the west coast. I assume AO-51
was off. Yesterd

I plan to try the next pass of AO-51 (precluding lightening and rain).
My window will be approx from 0325 local (0135Z) to about 0331L
and will include Ca, Nv and a part of Utah. A good pass for Hawaii.

Unless someone has set up a strange repeater there is absolutely
no doubt AO51 was alive and well as she came out of eclipse moments ago.
I was able to hear myself perfectly on the downlink (145.880 up and
435.150 down). Unfortunately, the footprint from here only touched the
west coast.

(hope those are the right freqs). AO-51 was coming out of eclipse
having crossed over the south pacific. High pass.

my Kenwood D700 I have done very
little with the 9600 baud. The new
Satellite RAX is 9600 GMSK. In
tracking the bird, the 20 second interval

That should provide nice coverage of the western
portion of the US for me. I've had either fantastic
results or no results whatsoever on these ultra

Re: the VX-7R: Mine is programmed for
all the FM birds.
I use 5 steps for Doppler at 5KHz intervals;
2 before and 2 after the central frequency.
To program these, I goto VFO and program
the first downlink. For instance 436.805 MHz
for SO-50. No tone is necessary here. I then
hold the "M

at 0203Z this afternoon. In order to spot the bird I will have
to head to the beach but it might be worth it!
The footprint will cover the entire western U.S.,
extending to Hawaii. My intent is to

Very late notice!!
BUT, I will give 51 a try on the next pass at
0159Z (AOS). Max el. here is 4 deg. and the footprint
should cover as far east as Colorado.
Will QRP it with Arrow and HT after traveling
to the easternly beach area of Oahu.

In general, Hawaii is a very quiet place.
Most passes of AO-51 fly by with no usage.
Accordingly, signal strength and quality are
usually quite discernable (assuming no
anomalous QRM) when QSOs do occur.
The initial reorientation of AO-51 was very

Does anybody know of any problems with
APRSWEST.net? For several days when
trying to logon via UIVIEW I have timed
out repeatedly. Oddly, even clicking on their
website (on another computer), the connection
does not occur? I have checked some
other servers in UIVIEW with no results.

Just a note on my personal Arrow experience.
With many satellites, ie, AO-51, SO-50,
Cubesats Prism, SEEDS, etc., I have found
that a "twist" of the wrist" can make the
difference between a "clean" signal and no
signal at all! This is a common phenomena
that I experienced less than

to work the easterly pass (from Honolulu) of
AO-51 around 0206Z. The maximum elevation
was 1.3 degrees. Using my VX-7R and
Arrow antenna I was able to hold the satellite

to xmit QRP SSTV (2.5 W) to WH6BIE
5000 miles round trip back to Hawaii (4 deg
max. el)
Surprisingly, prior to my SSTV xmit, I picked
up several new stations but as my digital recorder
was in the xmit position and my hands full with my
Arrow

The unit operates more as a base station than mobile, but on occasion
I will take the Kenwood into the field for low passes in order to "hit" the
mainland (Voice).

For all those that called out to me this afternoon.
Mahalo. The AO51 easterly at 0231Z had a
maximum elevation of 1.6 degrees here. I was able
to hear Patrick (WD9EWK) barely. A review of
the audio tape clearly shows WB7QXU also
calling (I just couldn't make out Michael at the
time).

I've noticed that AO-51 will have a maximum
elevation of 2 degrees on todays "easterly"
Hawaiian pass. The footprint will extend from
Honolulu to near the western border of Iowa.
To date, my "longest" AO-51 QSO has
been with K7ULS near Eden, Utah. This
may be an opportunity to extend
