I gave had good luck with the AG-25 and AG-35 used with my IC-970A.
Except for one incident when I was keyed down and switched the satellite
mode switch and zapped the AG-25. Apparently the internal sequencer did
not expect me to do that.

I've been using the SSB Electronic preamps for years now. Thye handle
the ~50 Watts from my FT-847 just fine.

I use preamps from SSB and have been very happy with them. Another popular
brand is Landwehr, as is ARR (with which you're having trouble).
My radio is an Icom IC-821 which provides power via the coax when in
receive-mode. The radio automatically removes the preamp power before keying

What are people using for pre amps. I only see the Mirage as an alternative.
Any other choices. I'm kind of disappointed in ARR products.

Hi Ted,
I have an ARR 160 watt RF sense unit and it works great.
I also have a couple of SSB RF sense units and they
work great too.

RF switched model as a just in case bit of insurance, and am glad I did.

I think DEMI made those protectors. I never modified my K5GNA
downconverter, so my FT-847 was tuned to 123MHz to use it, and it
wouldn't transmit there.

What Greg is describing is an RF sensed high-power
attenuator. Downeast makes two products that can work to do this:
One is the AOS-144 ( $80.00) which switches RF thru a 50w attenuator
to a factory adjusted level from 10 up to 100mw output for driving a
transverter. The receive side is
