Thanks for your reply. I was able to view the log and see 'Error inflating class com.google.android.view.MapView'. Did a little more searching and realized I had the wrong package for MapView in my layout sml. IMmst have copied it wrong or from an outdated source. Once I used the right package of com.google.android.maps.MapView it started working!
