I haven't used Busybox on the Freerunner yet so I'm not sure if this is relevant, but... Have you mounted the root file system as writeable? The magic line on the ADB instruction being: ./adb shell mount -o remount,rw rootfs / I assume you would drop the ./adb shell bit.
