this issue resolved by changing the order of the code from 
app.get('*',function(req, res){
 res.sendFile('master.html', { root: path.join(__dirname, '/public/views/') 
});
});
routes(app, mongoose);

to

routes(app, mongoose);
app.get('*',function(req, res){
 res.sendFile('master.html', { root: path.join(__dirname, '/public/views/') 
});
});
