He also expressed pessimism about hopes of a peaceful solution. "Unfortunately I believe that if tomorrow or the day after hostilities break out, there will be a post-war and, even if we didn't want it, we will perhaps be called on to do humanitarian things," he said. "Discussions between defence ministers are always useful. It is this dialogue which allows wars to be avoided. Unfortunately I don't know whether we will succeed in avoiding it," he said. "We are in the final phase today and we have to think about managing the post-war situation," he added, speaking in the sidelines of a meeting of EU defence ministers outside Athens. Belgium is fiercely opposed to a war on Iraq, and was among three countries -- along with France and Germany -- which sparked a crisis in NATO last month after opposing US plans to boost defences in Turkey to prepare for war. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
