DEFENCE MINISTER OF ARMENIA AND U.S. SECRETARY OF DEFENSE WILL DISCUSS MILITARY COOPERATION BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES YEREVAN, MARCH 17, 2002. /RIA Novosti correspondent Avet Demuryan/ -- The main theme of the negotiations during the visit to Washington by Armenian Defence Minister Serzh Sarkisyan will be the fight against terrorism. RIA Novosti was told about this by press secretary of the Armenian Defence Minister Seiran Shakhsuvaryan. According to him, during this visit the sides will discuss issues concerning the completion of the creation in Armenia of the centre for demining, modernising the communications systems and training officers' contingent of the Armenian Armed Forces. As was earlier said by ambassador of the United States to Armenia John Ordway, today the two sides are working out a concept and main trends in cooperation in the military sphere. The visit to the USA by Serzh Sarkisyan, just as the last December visit to Armenia by U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, has been assessed by the ambassador as part of the consultations process. According to him, the U.S. Congress has already allocated 463 million dollars to Armenia for military needs, but so far it is too early to speak about concrete programmes.
