A MEMORIAL TO SOVIET SOLDIERS PROFANED IN BERLIN BERLIN, MARCH 17, 2002. /RIA Novosti correspondent Alexander Polotsky/ -- The Soviet military memorial in the city cemetery in the Marzan district of Berlin was profaned on Saturday, March 16, said the Berlin police spokesman. According to him, many tombstones on the graves of the soldiers of the Soviet Army who gave their lives for the liberation of Berlin have been overturned and Nazi swastikas painted on them in indelible colours. Several other graves have been also profaned. The Berlin law enforcement bodies have started investigation. Apart from that, the German state television channel ZDV (the Second German television), the biggest in Europe, reported that on Saturday evening, in another part of Berlin (in Scharlottenburg district), a terrorist act was committed in the Berlin Jewish cemetery - a shell was exploded at the entrance to the cemetery.
