The Kansas City Peace Planters, a coalition of
citizens’ groups led
by Ploughshares Fund grantee Kansas City Physicians for Social Responsibility,
is working
tirelessly to keep a proposed nuclear weapons plant from being built in their
city.
There is no need for a new plant to produce parts for
nuclear bombs.
Instead, the community is proposing alternatives - like new energy technologies
and
manufacturing - to bring sustainable, not destructive, jobs to Kansas City.
But they need your help - with a City Council vote
coming up this
Thursday, your voice can make the difference now. Please sign the petition to
keep a
dangerous and toxic plant out of the Kansas City community. Show Kansas City’s
elected
leaders that their citizens have broad support across the nation.
Over 150 people have already died and more are sick
from working at
the nation’s leading manufacturer of nuclear weapons parts in Kansas City.. Now
Honeywell,
the operator for the plant, and the National Nuclear Security Administration
want to rebuild
and expand the existing plant, without cleaning up the old one. This would
represent the
first newly constructed weapons plant in over 30 years – a major step backwards
on the road
to a nuclear weapon-free world.
The Kansas City Peace Planters believe the people have
a right to
reject the plant and fight for clean, green jobs. They’ve gathered over 5,000
signatures
asking the City Council to convert the plant into a renewable energy facility.
Help give
Kansas City the option for a nuclear-free future and sign the petition.

nuclear
weapons.
