How about Haralson? We use it some years here as a sandpaper substitute.

Hi All:
This has been fun!! I wonder how many messages flew
around on this one. OK Keith, I'm ready and how did Jon Clements get
the apple?
Be well, George
PS. The folks who don't opened their E-mail on weekends will wonder
what the heck has been going on ! I wonder
I'm way too youg to answer this question. But being their seems to be so much
interest in it Kieth had better get this trade marked or make it a club
variety before Dennis Courtier's "The Next Big Thing" gets to it!!
LOL I agree with someone way back--Virginia Winesap
As a pathologist, I'd like to point out that none of the posted
pictures adequately show the somewhat Brooks-spot-like symptoms on
some of the fruit.
As for my phytopathological analysis of taste: good.

Okay, I'll play. This is a S.W.A.G., but I could use the cash. Spice of Old

This has gotten interesting. I ate the apple yesterday -- rather dense
in hand, but flesh rather fine and somewhat soft, certainly not
crispy-crunchy, but not soft to bite (like McIntosh) either. Skin
intermediate in thickness, not unpleasant. Complex-sweet flavor, but
not 'fruity.' Is reminiscent
Looks like the Swiss Limbertwig.

Keith: I grew up with Genet or Genetin but the picture does not fit with my
memory. And unfortunately, my history of Fuji was tossed during some reduction
in files so all I remember is that Ralls, Genet or Jenniten was listed as one
of the parents in the Plant Introduction lists for Tohoku 7
After a bit of research, I found two apples with a Virginia prefix, Virginia
Beauty from Carroll Co., Virginia and Virginia Winesap, from Troutville,
Virginia.
Given the clues in your e-mail below my guess is Virginia Winesap.

Neither of those is correct, Dan, but I like one of your guesses because it is
getting really warm on what was to be another clue:
*It originated in the same central Virginia area as one of the Fuji's parents -
just over yonder...
An interesting side benefit of this game is that we will remembe

Mystery apple? Grown in northern Virginia, courtesy Keith Yoder,
Virginia Tech. Just harvested. Likely an antique variety from the
area. Note the short stem and rather pronounced lenticel spotting.

Hi Randy and All:
What is a Paula McIntosh?
I guess you didn't mean Paula Red, more coreectly named Paulared.
These people that separate the letters red (also
Red) from the rest of the word bug me.
Be well, George
Looks like a Paula McIntosh
