Hello Michael, All;

I haven't checked the list to see what others' luck has been yet but really,
Michael, you should do a private pre-announce test with the known bitchers
before you stick your neck out. <G> Just trying to be funny !

Ok, download time of the .zip version from the 20Mbps site at Prague took me
almost exactly 10 minutes.

Unzipping to the ramdisk took about 30 seconds.

First trial: I copied my old 1.50b2 Arachne.cfg and key to ramdisk and typed
setup. Text screen asks to select swapping method - selected XMS.
Text screen asks to select video - selected VGA.
Text screen says it doesn't recognize my video and goes back to select xswap.

No way out of this loop. Esc does nothing. CntrlC does nothing. No matter what
video I select, it doesn't recognize it and loops.
Well, really, I forgot to switch to VGA but what the heck, it used to say it
didn't recognize my video and give me an option to quit. (So I could change it.)

Anyway, this is fun. Hit the RESET.
Go back to square one and unzip to ramdisk again and this time switched my card
to VGA before starting setup.
Ok, this time when I select VGA it DOESN'T go back to select xswap it goes to
some HiRes video mode that is not supported by my monitor !!

So, I loaded up a floppy and took it over to my new system (P75 blown to 100)
with a Trident VGA card and a color monitor. (Hey, it was free)

Transferred it to harddrive (C:\ARACHNE) and went to setup.
XMS ok. VGA OK.
Now I have a color screen with some horsehockey about selecting video mode.

It has identified my card as TRIDENT and I can light up any buttons I want
but again THERE IS NO WAY OUT. Enter on the "TRY GRAPHICS MODE" button does
nothing. "ESC" does nothing. Point (with the keyboard) at ANYTHING and hit
enter and it does nothing. The instructions say: "Use TAB/shiftTAB and ENTER
to select graphics mode.

TAB won't even goto any links below Tseng ET4000 and ENTER and ESC and cntrlC
do nothing. THERE IS NO WAY OFF THIS SCREEN.

Except CntrlAltDelete.

No matter.
I restart and transfer my Arachne.PCK from version 1.50b2 and then run Arachne.

It works ! I get VGA 640x480 and the Dialler screen. But something looks wrong.

Michaels' copyright message is now so long it pushes the page load time display
into my clock and the bar that used to be split into registered name and TCP/IP
time is longer and not split. Ah well, a small point.

Back to my preferred hardware with my old Arachne.PCK and it works too !
I get my 640x480 VGA monochrome the way I like it but there's these darn .gifs
that I love to erase in the background. So just altE and I'll kill them.
WHAT ? So just altE and I'll kill them !!
HEY ! It won't let me shell to DOS !! - Just pops off and right back again.

Bummer. I REALLY REALLY need THAT one.

Tried it with the P~100. It works. But the OS on that system is 6.22.

Conclusions: Major screwup on the video select function and it no longer works
properly with DOS3.3.

Going home to try it on my '386 with EGA. Ha Ha.

Not much hope. Back tomorrow. <g>
