Hi List,
Thought I would interject on this one...sorry, I did not
quote any of the original message...but, the question was
asked if the user could boot into a prior version of DOS
on a computer with Win9X installed? YES!!! BUT---the
installation of Win9X had to be an "upgrade" of an
existing MS DOS system, specifically MS DOS 6.22 and
earlier. Then, at the time of upgrading (if that's what
you choose to call it, hehe) the user is asked if they
wish to keep their current version of MS DOS or replace
it...or it will also compress the current system files
for previous versions, in case you desire to uninstall
Win9X. IF the user chose not to keep the replaced OS
system files, they will NOT be available. The only
way to boot into a prior version of DOS will be to
install that prior version into a completely new and
different directory, say something like C:\MSDOS622,
and the next step will entail editing MSDOS.SYS on the
Win9X files to enable Multiple Booting (BOOTMULTI=1, I think)
or do like I did, and use XSetup 2.0 or TWEAKUI to
change MSDOS.SYS. Then, you need to enable the Boot Menu
to allow booting to previous DOS.
To finish, it is possible to boot into any version of DOS
on a Win9X machine, provided NONE of the System files were
removed during Win9X installation.
