I find dramatic differences in browsing speed depending on
which packet driver, browser, combination of TSRs, etc. I am
running.

I realize that the actual download speed reported by a browser
(e.g., arachne) depends on net traffic, phone lines, etc.

Therefore, is there some reasonable way to benchmark the
http type , tcp/ip speed of my PC, so I can isolate what
combinations of software on my local PC decreases this speed?
This is different than mere modem speed, since I am interested
in a standardized speed that uses the http Web protocal, but
one that holds variations ``out there'' on the internet constant.
One possibility I thought of is a null modem cable, 2 PCs and
measuring the speed between 2 telnet programs -- perhaps downloading a
file.

Any other thoughts - perhaps an internet site out there that
offers some kind of benchmark measure?

Thanks all.
