check /etc/fstab & see if swap is activated more thanonce You're right.  That was precisely the problem.  In fact, I had duplicate entries for everyone of my partitions (i.e., /, /boot, swap).  Also, I have experienced this problem every time I installed Arch.  I must be doing something wrong.
