Thankyou for pointing out powertop2. It allows for more control than the
original powertop. The URL in the PKGBUILD is not correct because of
kernel.org's changes. Googling for a new location was easy enough.

On a related note - I also get this "no ACPI estimate" error, but only
when my laptop is not on battery power. When unplugged, it gives
estimates as desired.
Anyone know why this would be?

a little snag, which I reported as bug FS#26395 on the bug tracker. I'm no
longer sure this is actually a bug, at least not of "who".

Since the upgrade to gnome 3.2, keyboard autorepeat is disabled every now
and then. To reenable it, I just open System Configuration -> keyboard, and
click on any slide bar or disable and enable autorepeat. After this, it
works for some minutes.
