i think Jude's problem not related to the kernel or espeakup. if
speaker-test doesn't work. that means either alsa or another sound
system doesn't work.
since I use the latest versions of packages and do not have such a
problem, I can’t tell you more
hello, i recommend using iso from talkingarch.info because it is newer.
but now all recent kernels suffer from speakup bug witch completely
hangs system.
i will test lts release. and if it is normal create new iso tomorrow.
in fact you can avoid thees bug if you use only read by strings
