No changes are necessary in any of the /etc/grub.d files.
the LTS kernel will be found automatically when running grub-mkconfig.

I didn't completely understand what if any edit needs to be made in any of
the /etc/grub.d/XX_files to have the LTS entry listed in the boot menu

I have 4.1.15 installed now and not so many GUI programs installed beside Libre
Office, web browser... mostly CLI utilities.
